Rose Garden at Mesa Community College
Welcome to the desert of the Southwest, the largest Rose Garden in Arizona. The Rose Gardens at Mesa Community College is not just a great Mesa landmark, they are a centerpiece for educational, social, and environmental initiatives in the Mid-America Valley. Not only is the Rose Garden at Mesa community colleges a great place to learn, the Rose Garden offers a great opportunity to grow your own vegetables in a small space. A growing number of people who have been recently helped by the Rose Garden have discovered that growing their own vegetables can be an excellent way to make their own meals, while learning something useful at the same time. 
The main feature of the Rose Garden at Mesa community college is that it is an ideal place for students to learn a new subject or for students to help the gardener with their project. While in the garden, students get a chance to see a part of life that is not really so different from the one they will experience as adults, and they may even learn a bit of gardening knowledge.
The Rose Garden has three large beds that are planted with a variety of plants and trees. Students can choose to plant shrubs that will eventually flower or they can select plants that will bloom for the entire growing season. Many of the plants are native to the Mid-West, and all of them are easy to grow. In addition to plants that bloom, students will also find that they have a selection of perennials that will provide color and beauty throughout the year. The majority of the plants are shade-loving and do very well in low light conditions.
If students choose to grow a rose plant for personal consumption, they will find that their selection is extensive. A range of roses is available, from the perennials to the annuals and flowering bushes. If a student is not looking for a long-term investment in flowers, there is also an indoor plant called a ficus plant that is a nice addition to the Rose Garden. Ficus plants have a unique shape and are hardy and durable. While not as colorful as other types of roses, they do not require constant care and are good for a few years until the roses in the garden begin to bloom.
As mentioned above, the rose garden at Mesa Community College encourages students to grow their own vegetables. The classes offered at the school include vegetable planting, hoeing, landscaping, organic gardening, and pest control. These classes are a great opportunity for students to learn how to use the skills they have learned in a real environment.
